Language Learning Center in Braila

MISSION

The Language Learning Center in Braila organizes face-to-face and online English courses, training courses for the military and civilian personnel that have to take the STANAG 6001 evaluation, military terminology courses meant for the Navy personnel and on request, personnel from other branches. The center is classified as a Continuous Professional Development Institution, with the objective of ensuring the linguistic interoperability in accordance with the international requirements and standards that Romania has to meet.

EDUCATION
Continuous Professional Development Programs organized in Language Centers
  1. Beginners - Advanced (BA) - Target STANAG Level 3333 - made up of 1 face-to-face course and 3 online courses which should be completed within 3,5 years. In order to be selected, the candidate should have a 3 STANAG level for at least one of the skills in the job description; at the placement test has obtained beginner level or has 0 STANAG level for at least two skills; has not attended a beginners course or above before.
  2. Intermediate - Advanced (IA) - Target STANAG Level 3333 - made up of 1 face-to-face course and 2 online courses which should be completed within 2,5 years. In order to be selected, the candidate should have a 3 STANAG level for at least one of the skills in the job description; at the placement test has obtained pre intermediate level or has 2 STANAG level for no more than two skills; has not attended an intermediate course or above before.
  3. Advanced (A) - Target STANAG Level 3333 - made up of 1 online course. In order to be selected, the candidate should have a 3 STANAG level for at least one of the skills in the job description; at the placement test has obtained post intermediate level or has 3 STANAG level for no more than two skills; has not attended an advanced course before.
  4. Beginners - Intermediate (BI) - Target STANAG Level 2222 - made up of 1 face-to-face course and 2 online courses which should be completed within 2, 5 years. In order to be selected, the candidate should have a 2 STANAG level for at least one of the skills in the job description; at the placement test has obtained beginner level or has 0 STANAG level for at least two skills; has not attended a beginners course or above before.
  5. Intermediate (I) - Target STANAG Level 2222 - made up of 1 face-to-face course and 1 online course which should be completed within 1 year. In order to be selected, the candidate should have a 2 STANAG level for at least one of the skills in the job description; at the placement test has obtained pre intermediate level or has 2 STANAG level for no more than two of the skills; has not attended an intermediate course or above before.

COURSES
Face-to-face
  1. Intermediate Course (I), which lasts 9 weeks;

Online
  1. Beginners Course (B), which lasts 20 weeks;
  2. Intermediate-Post intermediate Course (IP), which lasts 9 weeks;
  3. Advanced Course (A), which lasts 20 weeks.

The online Beginners and Advanced courses have replaced the former face-to-face ones while the online Intermediate-Post intermediate Course is meant for practicing the skills acquired during the face-to-face Intermediate course.

Other courses

According to the specific linguistic needs of the military and civilian personnel, the Language Centers can organize different courses both face-to-face and online that last no more than 4 weeks.

  1. Training courses for the military and civilian personnel that have to take the STANAG 6001 evaluation;
  2. Military terminology Courses.
  3. From 2016 on eLearning RO ARMY platform which belongs to "Carol I" National Defense University - https://roarmy.adlunap.ro - materials meant to develop and improve the English language skills can be accessed by all the personnel in the Armed Forced whether they have graduated from an English Language Course or not. The Language Center in Braila is, thus, providing the military and civilian personnel with a new resource to study English and prepare for different types of evaluations and, what is more, the teachers can offer feedback and advice on how to tackle the writing and speaking tasks.

TESTS
  1. Placement tests (ALCPT) in order to take part in the STANAG 6001 evaluation for English.
  2. Placement tests (for English) in order to take part in one of the courses organized in the center.
  3. Mid-term tests during the face-to-face and on-line courses.
  4. Final tests and the end of the face-to-face and on-line courses.
  5. Tests on request:
    • as part of the mission selection process;
    • as part of different contests, promotions, direct commissioning administrative procedures.
